about natacha

Natacha is a nomadic individual, finding solace and home in whatever physical environment she finds herself. Born in LA (CA) (1981) and raised in Texas and New Mexico, she now lives in upper Manhattan, and has lived in New York longer than anywhere else in her life. Embarking regularly on adventures of all sorts, Natacha prefers those involving strange sounds and interesting people. She composes music, performs as often as possible, teaches electronic and computer music to children and adults, and works closely with other composers to ensure that they continue to write exquisitely demanding music for her. She has commissioned and premiered dozens of works and performed at spectacular venues all over the United States and Europe. Natacha is especially fond of electroacoustic chamber music, and fulfills this love through Ensemble Pamplemousse. Pamplemousse is a group of uniquely talented, lovable, and creative musicians, whose primary goals are to shatter artistic borders and produce great music. Natacha also Natacha holds a BM in flute performance from NYU, a MFA from the ITP program at Tisch School of the Arts, NYU, and is currently in her second year of pursuing a DMA in composition from Columbia University. She freelances in New York City playing flute, singing strangely, hitting rocks together, and wiring audio/video studios; and performs regularly with Pamplemousse and On Structure, a sound-centric performance art duo with Jessie Marino.

Natacha’s music has been presented around the US by the MATA Festival in New York; Subtropics XXI and Twelve Nights in Miami FL; the Austin Museum of Digital Art; the Darmstadt Series at Issue Project Room in Brooklyn; and the Spectrum new music series in California and New York, among others. Her work has been supported by Meet the Composer, the Argosy Foundation, the O’Connor Foundation, the Aaron Copland Fund for Music, the American Music Center Composer Assistance Program, and the New York State Council on the Arts. She has participated as a performer and composer in new music and art festivals worldwide, including Ostrava Days (Ostrava CZ), Seedlot Festival (Oneonta NY), and Harold Arts (OH). She has held residencies at STEIM in Amsterdam, Rensing Arts Center, Soaring Gardens in Pennsylvania, and received a Emerging Artist Commision from Issue Project Room (Brooklyn) in November 2011, which she fulfilled with the production of a monodrama entitled Uncanny Valley. Natacha can be heard as a flautist on New World Records (with Christian Wolff) and as flautist and composer on Carrier Records (with Pamplemousse).
Natacha is dedicated to helping others along the path of learning to incorporate technology and music, and has taught workshops in the subject at Columbia Teacher’s College, School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Montessori School of Raleigh, Upper Catskill Community Center for the Arts, Redux Arts Center, Hartwick College, Southern Wesleyan University, and Northwest Vista Community College. She currently teaches MIDI at Columbia University.
